FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
New Children’s Book (Second in Series) Features Positive Mentoring, Interracial Friendship, Fun with Dinosaurs, and Deep Questions about Life
Louisville-based writer, poet and mentor Robin Bensinger, (Big Sister, Little Sister, Dreamerly Books, 2023) will officially release her second book for children, Big and Little Sister go to a Museum, on May 15, 2023. It is the second book in a series and is great for kids of all ages. It has plenty of fun rhymes, exciting antics and wonderful cartoony pictures by illustrator Richie Williams. The series was inspired by the author’s friendship arranged through Compeer for Youth, a program similar to Big Brothers, Big Sisters. This friendship has changed both lives for the better in myriad ways. They have kept in touch throughout the years, and even celebrate birthdays and holidays together, as the younger friend has become part of the mentor’s family.
Here is a Book Summary: Little Sister is excitedly getting ready for their second outing, a trip to the local dinosaur museum. Big Sister shows up at her door on time; both of them are looking good, and ready for an adventure! Little Sister expresses some fear about the dinosaurs, not really understanding that they are not alive. Big Sister tries to allay her fears. One of the dinosaurs in the museum moves mechanically, and Little Sister becomes very frightened. Big Sister is able to calm her down, and the rest of the outing includes deep conversation, a deer sighting, and some delicious ice-cream.
“According to research, students who are in mentoring programs are: 59% more likely to earn better grades. 52% less likely to skip school. 81% more likely to participate in extracurricular activities.” Aug 18, 2021
Why Youth Mentoring Is Important : Education - DREAM
Why would a child need a mentor?
“Mentoring can help youth as they go through challenging life transitions, including dealing with stressful changes at home or transitioning to adulthood. Close, healthy, supportive relationships between mentors and mentees that last for a significant portion of time (i.e., more than one year) are central to success.”
-Benefits of Mentoring for Young People - Youth.gov
Reading Big Sister, Little Sister with your child can remind both of you of the importance mentors can play in the life of a young person.
(Note: Robin Bensinger has lived with bipolar disorder since age 25. She was not discriminated against when seeking to become a mentor, and this has made all the difference in her life and the life of her mentee.)
IMPORTANT ANNOUNCENT: For every $10 spent through Dreamerly Books, we will donate $1.00 to One Tree Planted (https://onetreeplanted.org) to compensate for our use of trees. Read about our business partnership on our blog at dreamerlybooks.org.

New Children’s Book Features Joyful Mentoring and Interracial Friendship
Louisville-based poet, writer and mentor Robin Bensinger (Daydream, Wasteland Press, 2002) will release her first book for children, Big Sister, Little Sister, on MLK Jr Day, January 16, 2023. It is the first book in a series and is great for kids ages 3-7. It has lots of fun rhymes and wonderful cartoony pictures by illustrator Richie Williams. The book was inspired by the author’s friendship arranged through Compeer for Youth, a program similar to Big Brothers, Big Sisters. This friendship has changed both lives for the better in myriad ways. They have kept in touch throughout the years, and even celebrate birthdays and holidays together, as the younger friend has become part of the mentor’s family.
Here is a Book Summary:
Big Sister is matched with Little Sister during a phone call from the mentoring agency. Soon she thinks about their upcoming first outing together, and begins to worry about what Little Sister will think of her. She doesn't have any reason to worry though, as they have a really great time. Afterwards, Big Sister is excited about doing lots of fun things together, including going to museums, movies, and more--with her new little sister, and is glad Little Sister feels the same way.
